Ideas / Innovations

Urbanisation is one of the greatest challenges before us. Already the transformation of our cities is posing great questions before government. How we respond to these questions will largely determine the course of our economy and society. Those cities which are creative in adapting to this transformation are achieving competitive advantages for themselves, and will be able to offer better living and working environments for their citizens.

To learn from the experiences of other cities, and to understand best practices from around the country and world, the office of Urban Affairs proposes to host an "Urban Innovations Forum". Each month, a speaker familiar with a particular kind of urban innovation will be invited to speak to an audience of city administrators, academics and professional consultants, and offer insights from his/her experience which may be useful to Bangalore and to Karnataka. These discussions will cover a wide range of topics - developing the inner city, providing new infrastructure, ensuring wide-spread access to housing, promoting urban livelihoods, promoting good governance etc.
